Welcome!
Welcome to this e-commerce business success story! In this profile, we interviewed Rohan, the owner of Biking Know How. Our hope is that you find this interview to be enlightening and inspiring as you seek to start and grow your very own online brand!
Thank you for joining us for this e-commerce business success story! We’d like to start by getting an understanding of your backstory. How did you come to own your business?
Hello, I am Rohan, I am originally from Mumbai, but now I am staying in the USA. I have a technology and finance background, and I worked with JP Morgan as a banker. Even though I enjoy my job, I always wanted to do something of my own. So, I followed the success stories of many ECommerce Drop-Shippers, Affiliate Marketers, and Bloggers. I found them through YouTube and Google. I was fascinated and inspired by their success, and I wanted to model them. From my research, I discovered that businesses like e-Commerce, blogging, and affiliate marketing are perhaps the easiest ways to generate some additional income. Also, these businesses do not require substantial investment to start. So I decided to model the operations of some very successful people in the space of e-Commerce and the Making Money Online space. Thankfully it has worked well for me so far.
Terrific! Now, this article is about profiling successful e-commerce businesses. So – can you share your top 3 keys to running a successful online brand?
According to me the 3 keys to running a successful online business is as follows,
- Learn to be disciplined: I run a small online business which I started running as a single person. I must confess, as a beginner I wasn’t very disciplined. Due to which it took me a long time to build and grow my online business. Fortunately I got mentored by amazing people and that helped me to get disciplined at running my online business. This eventually resulted in decent success that I am having right now.
- Build Enough Resilience: I follow two very famous mantras or quotes, one is “Screw it, let’s do it- By Sir Richard Branson” and “Just do it- This slogan is from Nike”. Early on when I started with my online business venture, many naysayers told me that I was not doing the right thing. But in response, I decided to focus on my passion and focus on my journey and growth. Fear of failure stops us most often from taking the first step. I would say, build resilience, take a leap of faith, trust that your business idea will work. As I was building my business, I was aware that I would face roadblocks. I did not let those stop my progress. I was flexible to pivot if needed.
- Have immense patience: This is perhaps the most important quality. Building a business is not easy and requires a lot of patience. It is key to be absolutely patient in order to build a sustainable long term business.
Excellent. Now, I’m sure it hasn’t always been that easy. Can you tell a story about one challenge, setback, or mistake that you’ve had to overcome on the road to success? How can others learn from your mistakes?

Thanks for that. Now – we want to know what’s next! What new initiatives are you rolling out at your business and what results are you hoping to see?
My new initiative for 2022 is for my e-Commerce business to reach 5,000 subscribers. Presently I have 2200 subscribers to my email list. I monetize my store using Product sales, Affiliate Offers, and Ad networks. Most of my daily traffic comes from subscribers. Hence, I want my store to hit the 5000 subscriber mark by the end of 2022. I plan to achieve my goal by focusing on digital marketing and SEO. I will double down my attention on SEO and Social Media. To grow my subscriber list, I also plan to implement email marketing.
Sounds exciting! Any final words of advice for our readers? My Response: According to me, running a business is a perfect option. Because of the Pandemic, now is the best time for people to gain skills that can help them earn additional income. In addition, there is a massive growth in the number of people making money online.
Following are some tips on how to get started with setting things up.
1. Get Proper Education: I self-trained myself on web development, SEO, and digital marketing by enrolling for coursework on Udemy and Udacity. The best part is that these courses cost on average no more than $ 15.
2. Buying a Domain and Hosting: To set up my blog, I purchased a domain name from GoDaddy. It cost me $ 12/year. For hosting, I bought an annual hosting subscription from SiteGround for $ 70/year.
